Turner returns to GTWC America with the BMW M6 GT3

A traditional squad is set for a return to the GT World Challenge America, as Turner Motorsport prepares to tackle the American SRO-sanctioned competition with their trusted BMW M6 GT3 in hand.

Turner Motorsport in fact comes and goes between in IMSA and SRO competitions in the US, being a regular in the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship while also taking part of the GT World Challenge America, though with distinct lineups for those competitions. Its last participation in GTWC America was last year in the Am Cup with Takuya Shirasaka and Naoto Takeda, coming from their GT World Challenge Asia Am Cup title in 2018 with KCMG, and their hard charge to multiple class wins wasn’t enough to dethrone Martin Fuentes and Squadra Corse.

In 2020, BMW was represented in GT World Challenge America by Stephen Cameron Racing, but the team appeared with their M6 GT3 only once at the season opener at the Circuit of the Americas, and then not seen again. At the season ending Indianapolis 8 Hour the Bavarian manufacturer saw Walkenhorst Motorsport appear and dominate, but both cars were contesting for Intercontinental GT Challenge points, especially as GTWC America didn’t have the Pro Cup this year.

No drivers neither the class to be contested were revealed so it’s wait and see, and another thing to take into account is that 2021 might be the last season Turner Motorsport will use the BMW M6 GT3, as in 2022 the new BMW M4 GT3 will be fully homologated and ready to go.
