An Audi R8 festival is the latest RaceRoom DLC

December is still the month for some important releases in sim racing as works goes until Christmas, and Sector3 Studios gave the real treat to Audi fans in their latest DLC, as RaceRoom now has all the current iteration of the R8 LMS in its peculiar specs.

Audi applies with the R8 LMS what Ferrari does with the 488 and what Aston Martin does with the Vantage, using the same platform for all GT classes they participate with the fundamentals of each spec being the difference, as parts interchangeability comes as a strong factor to adopt this kind of policy instead of marketing different models for different classes.

On the GT3 side we have the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo, basically the good old Audi R8 LMS from 2016 around an upgrade kit brought to improve several areas of the car, like aero, cooling, reliability, and since the manufacturer wasn’t exactly into building a new model like some of its competition, that was the solution found, and it’s working well as the R8 LMS GT3 Evo is still a front runner in most of the GT3 championships and events around the World.

The GT4 side counts with the Audi R8 LMS GT4, with roughly 55 hp less, simpler aero and a real bunch of part in common with its road variant, which added another category to grow within Audi’s wings in sportscar racing. The R8 LMS GT4 proved to be a success from the go with the GT4 European Series title in its debut season in 2018, and its expansion to other competitions around the globe is following the steps of the GT3 and TCR customer programs.

Finally the newest creation of Audi’s sportscar ladder, the Audi R8 LMS GT2, the second GT2 car in RaceRoom, which in fact so new it basically had only an appearance at the GT Sports Club round at Barcelona in 2019 thanks to WRT and James Sofronas. The idea of the class is to aim at gentleman drivers so they can have another option for either SRO series or outside it.

If the GT4 version of the R8 LMS is really behind on power compared to the GT3 car, the GT2 car goes the other way round witn its 640 hp, 90 hp more than the R8 LMS GT3 Evo, though this is compensated by having way less downforce than the GT3 car, putting the new GT2 class in between the GT3s and the GT Cup cars such as the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in terms of performance.

Along the Audi trio, two Volkswagens were brought in, being the Scirocco Group 2 touring car and the award-winning ID.R EV prototype, and the new circuit of the lot is Watkins Glen, a venue that held F1 races in the past, is an important NASCAR and IndyCar venue and has the 6 Hours of the Glen as its famous endurance race, although it’s also popular with other competitions in different specs.

All items released in December for RaceRoom can be acquired separately via the in-game store, but it can be accessed via the RaceRoom site too.
