World RX return to Spa postponed to 2021

Despite most motorsport competitions around the World somehow succeeding into returning to normal track activity, their calendars are still subject to last minute changes with varying levels of impact, and the FIA World Rallycross Championship was again victim of the circumstances of 2020, with the Belgian round being axed from the current schedule.

The return to the purpose-built rallycross layout at the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps will have to wait some time as a second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak made the cases rise with intensity in Belgium, which was enough for the circuit representatives, along with IMG and the FIA to take a joint decision into canceling the round set to be held on 22 November, having the Euro RX, Projekt E and the Super 1600 to fill the weekend schedule.

It wasn’t the first time in 2020 that the organizations involved in World RX had to take the hard decision of canceling a round, with three famous venues, Montalegre, Lohéac and Hell, staying without the show of rallycross machines due to their situation regarding the COVID-19, as the outbreak was either worsening or already in a situation where the health and safety of drivers and staff couldn’t be secured.

With the Spa RX out of the calendar, the 2020 season only has the debut of the Nürburgring RX left to do to end it, and although not confirmed, the visit to the track prepared at the Müllenbach section of the GP-Strecke probably will not receive a double-header to fill the gap left by Spa-Francorchamps.

Despite being left without the 2020 edition, the 2021 Spa RX has a date set, expected to be held on 23 May.
