GCK moves on to greener pastures

It’s no secret that Guerlain Chicherit and his GCK outfit are moving into motorsport with alternative energy, aiming for both the electric side and also hydrogen, but an announcement from the French squad shaken up everything as they are moving away permanently from internal combustion.

The announcement about the change of plans follows changes within GCK itself, as what was GC Kompetition now turns into GCK Motorsport, the sporting arm of Green Corp Konnection, a company that will comprise companies that will work into solutions to implement and improve the participation of alternative energies in racing.

Along its rallycross operation, GCK also has works into cross country rallying and even had a Clio Cup France, which means that even asphalt circuit racing may be on the cards, and their new focus will start exactly with the Dakar Rally, as Chicherit itself came from it to his rallycross ventures, as the team presented the GCK e-Blast 1, which will have a fully electric powertrain for 2021 being made at home while a hydrogen-powered vehicle will be in the works to be race-ready in 2024.

While the World RX campaign was active, GCK was also interested in the electric future of rallycross, as GCK Energy was selected to offer the energy for all World RX operations when the electric cars start their participation in the Supercar class, which is now set to start in 2022, but the company didn’t wait for this was already powering GCK’s World RX operation as their infrastructure was working on solar power.

Concluding the list of announcements, GCK also stated that from 2021 the team will be away from internal combustion power, meaning that the World RX grid loses a two-car team for 2021 as UNKORRUPTED was fielding a pair of GCK Clios to Chicherit and Rokas Baciuska, with occasional appearances of Kevin Abbring, though they can make the compromise and go back to compete in Projekt E or in the new FIA RX2e championship.

Despite the fact that the team won’t be in World RX next year, their cars, a trio of GCK Meganes and a pair of GCK Clios, will be available to be acquired and run by other entities, should interested teams decide to acquire cars or if Monster Energy RX Cartel and Anton Marklund decide to retain their current machines.
