GCK Unkorrupted will miss Barcelona RX

The grid for the Barcelona RX double header will miss two cars, with French team GCK Unkorrupted opting to stay out of the Spanish event of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as a whole, reducing the presence of the GCK fleet.

According to a statement from the team this Thursday (15), the decision to withdraw the event was taken based on issues found in the GCK Clio R.S. RX cars after tests being made following the end of the Riga RX, and concluding that these issues wouldn’t be solved in time to take part of the Barcelona RX, both cars will stay out, leaving both Guerlain Chicherit and Rokas Baciuska without a drive, a situation that is even worse for the Lithuanian as he already missed the Kouvola RX double header to give place to Kevin Abbring as he was trying to find pace and solve problems in the car.

GCK kept in 2020 the same level of support than in 2019, but distributed this into three banners, with the three GCK Megane R.S. RX models being with GCK Bilstein and Monster Energy RX Cartel, while the main outfit opted for a focus in the pair of FORS-Built GCK Clio R.S. RX cars.

All cars were plagued with problems during the 2020 season, but Anton Marklund, Liam Doran and Andreas Bakkerud are somehow finding pace and reliability in the Meganes, keeping their results in the middle of the table, while the Clios are struggling to even get into the Semifinals, as Baciuska has the best result being 11th in the first Höljes RX event, with neither him, Abbring or Chicherit going above 13th in the qualifying standings.

The trio of Meganes will compete at the Barcelona RX and GCK will keep the support to the cars, and while there’s no confirmation of further plans, GCK Unkorrupted will return at the Spa RX, which is the following round. The Barcelona RX will have two separate events on 17 and 18 October, with 16 cars set to compete and the returns of Juha Rytkönen and Enzo Ide.
