Emil Frey scores dominant 1-2 at Barcelona Race 1

While title-related matters were the main topic at the Barcelona finale for the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, it was Emil Frey Racing celebrating the Race 1 win with the No. 163 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo along a 1-2 finish and a double class win in Spanish soil.

Emil Frey Racing took advantage of the first and third positions where their Lamborghinis started, made the teamwork play for them and at least kept the No. 14 Lamborghini in the lead while the No. 163 car was in third after jumping to second for a brief moment.

While the top of the table was somewhat stable, the Am Cup ace car, the No. 93 Tempesta Ferrari, found the way to the gravel trap after a spin, which called the Safety Car for the first time. With the green flag being waved again, the No. 89 AKKA-ASP was still stuck between the Emil Frey Lamborghinis in second, while the title contender No. 4 HRT Mercedes was just having a close view of the clash.

After the pit window the No. 89 AKKA-ASP Mercedes was left behind while Emil Frey was still in command, but now having the company of the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes. The No. 163 Emil Frey Lamborghini swapped places with the No. 14 and the Swiss Lamborghinis gone away while the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes was in an isolated third place.

With 10 minutes to go the No. 107 CMR Bentley stopped with fire at the engine bay, meaning that the Full Course Yellow was in action again, and with the cars bunched up, the comfortable position of the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes would be threatened. The restart was a one lap dash to the finish line, but no one was able to challenge the Emil Frey dominance, with the No. 163 Lamborghini winning overall and the No. 14 coming home second with the Silver Cup win.

The No. 52 AF Corse Ferrari won the Pro-Am Cup by holding the No. 2 ERC Sport Mercedes at the final moments.
