GT World Challenge Europe reveals 2021 calendar

The 2020 season of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS barely started and the plans for 2021 are already in place, with most of the calendar set for a return next year.

Most of the circuits that were affected by the events of the COVID-19 pandemic are expected to return, while the ones present in the calendar due to the contingency plan established by the SRO are likely to not return, though there are two free spots, one for the Endurance Cup and the Sprint Cup finale. While Monza, Brands Hatch and Barcelona are confirmed to be back, there are doubts about Silverstone and Hungaroring, and as doubtful as it is, Imola and Magny-Cours have a chance.

Also, the series returns to its usual structure of five Sprint Cup double-headers and five Endurance Cup events, which also means that the Nürburgring round will return to its three hour format. 2020 will see the use of triple headers and a six hour race as the goal was to keep the track time as if in normal circumstances.

Monza and Brands Hatch return opening the schedule in April and early May, while an unconfirmed Endurance Cup event and the Paul Ricard 1000 complete the fifth month of the year. The Zandvoort Sprint Cup round will be the only June event, followed by Misano in early July, with the 24 Hours of Spa ending the month and starting August.

After a month Nürburgring ends the Endurance Cup, while the Barcelona Sprint Cup rounds needs confirmation if it will be in September or October, along with an unconfirmed Sprint Cup event which possibly can extend the series to November.
