Paasonen returns to World RX with his own team

Former WRC driver and World RX part timer Jani Paasonen is finding his way to compete in the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship season, and he is going for real with it being his way, joining in with an independent team.

The outfit is named Ferratum Team, based on his main sponsor, and its operations are based in Finland, which adds another team from the country to the World RX grid, with the other one being GRX TANECO, and the location will be proven to be strategically favorable, as the trio of double-headers that will open the season demand less effort from a traveling standpoint as Höljes, Kouvola and RIga are way closer than the remainder of the calendar.

In terms of machinery, Paasonen will not change too much from what he is used to, as he will enter a Ford Fiesta RX prepared at home, adding to a number of different versions that were seen from the popular worldwide hatchback, and tests were already conducted in Finland in order to get prepared for the upcoming season and find some details in the car’s tuning.

Paasonen’s 2019 season was spent with STARD, competing in five events and narrowly missing the access to the Hell RX semifinals as his best result, but with the Austrian team focusing its attention entirely in the new Projekt E Series, the drivers were left looking for seats elsewhere, which includes Janis Baumanis, who moved to KYB Team JC.

The 2020 season plans for Paasonen and Ferratum Team will comprise only the European rounds, which means they will miss only the Abu Dhabi RX on 31st October, so their journey starts at Höljes on 22nd and 23rd August.
