Automobilista 2 hits version 1.0 milestone

While a bit of the real world motorsport championships are taking their steps to come back, the sim racing world is still taking advantage of the boom that happened during the COVID-19 lockdown period, and the full release version of Automobilista 2 is expected to benefit from a chunk of this success.

REIZA Studios stated frankly in their latest development roadmaps that the 1.0 version is more like a halfway milestone than the end of it, with more features and more content expected to come in the very near future, with the same regularity of their final updates of the early access version, which were like a game changer for the Brazilian title, which shifted from the ISI gMotor 2.0 to the Madness engine, known because of the Project CARS franchise. In terms of content, there wasn’t that many additions as the focus was mostly polishing what was already there, though you can expect a bit of everything as all areas were covered.

The flagship addition was the new machinery that will compose the grid of the 2020 Stock Car Brasil season, replacing the JL09-based Chevrolet Cruze, with significant changes to its predecessor that come along with the return of a multi-manufacturer formula, which was out since 2016 when Peugeot made company to Chevy. While most of the mechanics remains there, there was a change for original bodywork from the road going counterparts of the Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla, along with less aero.

The touring car side also had the addition of the 1979 Stock Car Brasil season, the inaugural one that had only the Chevrolet Opala, along with the long defunct Copa Montana, a single make cup which lasted for two years a decade ago, which is a favorite from the Automobilista player base.

The sportscar side was limited to Ginetta Cars, as two British models were included in the list, being them the G55 GT4 Supercup, which is for the single make series that’s under the BTCC schedule, and the G58-P2 prototype, which is an upgrade from the G57-P2 that’s used in more open regulations, which includes Império Endurance Brasil, as Team Ginetta Brasil expanded from their FARA USA operations to bring their machine to its homeland.

The inclusions to the open wheel side were aimed to the classics, as the Brabham BT44, Lotus 72E and the McLaren M23, which make occasional appearances in the mainstream sim racing titles, are part of a new Formula Retro Gen1 series.

Four venues were also included in the 1.0 release, with Bathurst being the most notable one, though it was one of the most expected as REIZA Studios announced it way before its arrival. In Portugal, Estoril (generically named Cascais) adds a bit to the European roster, as it’s a regular host of the Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil series, and inside Brazilian territory, the Granja Viana kart track, which is recognized by its international status and its annual 500 mile race, and the Brasilia track, which was speculated to host an IndyCar race some years ago but is inactive and with maintenance pending.

Also available is what can be called a sketch of the championship mode, as there is no customization available and the only series fully present in this mode is Stock Car Brasil 2020.

There’s also a list of fixes, updates and implementations due to the fact that the jump was made from the version 0.9.7 to 1.0, which can be read in their announcements on Steam. Automobilista 2 is costing now US$ 39.99, with a season pass that will secure access to future content at US$ 99.99.
