Ferrari arrives in RFactor2 with the 488 GTE

Studio 397 is the responsible not only for developing RFactor2, but also for bringing a whole new breath of life to the simulator, bringing sometimes the unexpected or the unthinkable, and between these two, Ferrari is the latest manufacturer to have official content in it, though relying in its sportscar prowess than its formula history.

The release of the 488 GTE, which was last Friday (29) is actually part of a two-way introduction in RFactor2, as following the Le Mans spec car, the Ferrari 488 GT3 will appear later at an undisclosed date. With the 488 GTE, the Le Mans production car class now has practically all brands represented on it in an official manner, missing only the now defunct Ford GT, and out of the current grid, RFactor2 is missing only the newer cars, which are the Porsche 911 RSR-19 and the Corvette C8.R.

The quick release of Ferrari’s GTE racer is also part of competition matters, as it will be part of the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 13th and 14th, and with the full entry announced along the reserve entries, which has 59 cars, Ferrari will have four cars in the grid and further three in the reserve list. If that isn’t enough, AF Corse will have factory presence with three cars and will mix its factory sportscar lineup with its Ferrari Driver Academy esports roster and Formula 1 drivers Charles Leclerc and Antonio Giovinazzi. With names like Miguel Molina, David Perel, Enzo Bonito and David Tonizza in the mix, expect them to be strong contenders for a win.

If you want a comparison of the 488 GTE with its GT3 counterpart, featured in more sim racing titles, most of the thing will actually make you comfortable in it if you like the GT3, since the 488s have a lot of details in common, mostly in order to make the transition easier from one spec to another for its customer teams. The things that stand out the most are the improved aero to compensate for less HP, and the lack of ABS, which makes you approach braking in a slightly different way, or else you’ll be blocking the all the time.

In terms of real life accolades, the Ferrari 488 GTE (and updates included) has the 2017 FIA WEC LMGTE-Pro title and a regular top-half finish, and the 488 GTE is quite popular with the LMGTE-Am teams, as the customer program rivals with Porsche in terms of importance and numbers.

The Ferrari 488 GTE available now in RFactor2’s Steam page, needing to head to the Item Shop in it. Once you acquire it, it will be downloaded automatically and included into your game to enjoy right away.
