Zandvoort’s 2020 update is available for RFactor2

During the first months of the year everybody watched with attention the progress of the maintenance work at the Circuit Park Zandvoort, in order to put the Dutch circuit into FIA Grade 1 standard to receive Formula 1, but while the real world construction was underway, Studio 397 acted quietly and quickly to include the circuit updates into RFactor2, released this Sunday (3).

The reconstruction process caught mostly the first and last sectors of the circuit, and it wasn’t limited only to the track itself, but also improvements in infrastructure in and outside the track to not only accommodate Formula 1 but also the support series during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.

Talking about the track, as it will be the most noticed thing in RFactor2, a new asphalt layer was put from the Hans Ernst Bocht to the exit of Gerlachbocht, while the middle of the track just received small updates between the asphalt, kerbs and gravel traps.

The famous Tarzanbocht banking is slightly less pronounced, with the pitlane moved from its start to its exit, with the extreme inner line having a layer of asphalt and a protective wall to separate the pitlane from the track, while in the extreme outer line an asphalt escape road was included. Hugenholtzbocht has now a more pronounced banking and its width was increased, which should open opportunities for overtaking coming from Gerlachbocht.

The Hans Ernst Bocht was slightly re-done to improve flow and allow greater speed, becoming wider and shorter with an asphalt escape road in the inside, starting just in the corner entry. The real change was at Arie Luyendijkbocht, where the flat road was totally replaced by a incredibly banked corner, changing totally its nature, from a rather fast corner which privileged good handling, to a full power flat out corner where almost every kind of car would go with the foot mashing the accelerator pedal.

The change at Arie Luyendijkbocht also opened a new overtaking opportunity. The old profile would only allow the car behind to barely follow the slipstream and go to overtake with very good timing, while the new banking allows braver moves from the outside, and if everything goes wrong at the corner, the slipstream push would allow for an extra opportunity at the home straight.

To the RFactor2 players who already subscribed to Zandvoort in the Steam Workshop, the 2020 circuit will be available after the download, and if not, just subscribe and all layouts will be available after the download.
