Updated World RX calendar set for August start

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in motorsport will probably be bigger in the worldwide competitions, even though most series are revising their calendars to use last months of 2020 in the smartest way possible, and this includes the FIA World Rallycross Championship, which is set for one of the most concentrated calendars in its history.

A good part of the 2020 season was already moved to other dates as the events couldn’t be held in its original ones, which affected the Barcelona RX, Montalegre RX, Spa RX and Hell RX, and Russia’s debut at Igora Drive was already canceled, and in the updated calendar not only things are set to start in August, but also the Cape Town RX was removed, the Abu Dhabi RX was turned into a double header, and the general look of the schedule is majorly Europe-centric, with Yas Marina being the only venue out of the old continent to be visited by the top tier rallycross competition.

The nine round journey starts at Höljes in mid to late August, while Lohéac and RIga follow as the September rounds. October will be the busiest month of the lot, with Spa-Francorchamps, Montalegre and Barcelona will be held in a row, while a two week break will offer some rest before the Aub Dhabi double header. After more than a month of break, the season will end with the debut of Nürburgring in mid December.

While the calendar should offer a good space for preparation, since the prediction for most lockdowns to be lifted between July and September depending of the country, but further changes aren’t discarded according to every scenario.
