There will be no Suzuka 10 Hours in 2020

Lots of racing series around the World are suffering with the COVID-19 pandemic in at least two ways, which are the uncertainty about dates given the constrained months available, and the rounds being cancelled, and SRO had another blow being dealt in their schedule, this time in the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli, as the Asian round, the Suzuka 10 Hours, will be out of the 2020 calendar.

The circuit based in the Mie prefecture has already suffered a blow in another SRO competition, as its event in the GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS was moved away to Autopolis, and not only the continental series also has an event at Fuji Speedway, but the Japanese venues will hold the opening events of the season in mid to late July, unless any change appears.

The reason for the cancellation of the Suzuka 10 Hours lies on the fact that the majority of the teams present on it come from all around the globe, especially from Europe, and this would prove to be too much of a burden to deal with, despite SRO announcing a health and safety protocol for the GT World Challenge Europe. Add to it the preventive measures Japan is taking to control Covid-19, which depending of the situation may change to stricter levels despite the current improvement, and the busy schedule of the circuit due to its national events, like Super GT, Super Formula and other competitions.

With the Bathurst 12 Hour already done, the following IGTC races will be the Indianapolis 8 Hour debut on October 4th, which will be run along with IndyCar, the TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa on October 24th and 25th, and finally the Kyalami 9 Hour on November 21st, though according to SRO an alternative for the Asian round isn’t discarded.
