Automobilista 2 update features Sigma P1, Kyalami and more

More content is popping up in Automobilista 2 as its weekly updates keep coming, and Reiza Studios brought the update 0.9.1 with more cars, a new track and improvements to the current cars and to Automobilista 2 in general.

The headline car of this update is the Sigma P1, which was built in the south of Brazil by Sigma P1 Engenharia (former Sigma Kart) and it’s active since 2017, though the look and what’s under the body of the current car differ a lot from its initial concept. The first idea was to bring a hybrid with no transmission, but durability was an issue that made the plan be scraped in favor of a traditional 6-speed transmission with an Audi V8 engine, producing 550 hp.

The version included in Automobilista 2 is the 2019-spec Sigma P1, which competed in the P2 class and achieved some success, but despite the aerodynamic overhaul, it was far from being on par with the P1 class machines in Endurance Brasil, though according to the update statement, once the updated 2020-spec car is ready, it will be included in the simulator.

Worth notice that the Sigma P1 has DRS included like the JLM Racing AJR, but as the system wasn't implemented in Automobilista 2 yet, you only have the conventional wing adjust available.

The other car included was the Copa Classic Volkswagen Passat for the Força Livre class, and although it sports only a flat yellow paint, its shape is reminiscent of the dubbed “Passat Canhão” that Niltão Amaral drove not only in Copa Classic but also in endurance races.

In the circuit department, the modern version of Kyalami was included to join the classic version which was already in the game. Kyalami is gaining popularity again in the sim racing community and with race fans in general, as the South African venue was taken by Porsche South Africa and suffered a facelift, which added international events like the IGTC’s Kyalami 9 Hours to the list of national races in the schedule, along with its appearance in Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Thanks to recent updates, Kyalami is now an FIA Grade 2 track, so the only thing the 4.522-kilometers track couldn’t host now is Formula 1, which opens the door for a lot of things to come in the future.

The general updates feature improvements to AI logic, especially focused in track awareness to human players, and an improved netcode will reduce the chance of ghost contact during multiplayer races while also allowing a closer following of the opponents, and finally some tweaks and corrections were brought in to the current cars, in both physics and graphics. The full changelog is on their Steam page, and it’s worth a quick read.

Automobilista 2 is limited to PC only, and its price is now moving to release day price, now costing US$ 29.99 or 26.99 Euros, depending of where you are.
