UK will see no GT World Challenge Europe in 2020

With the delicate moment that the World is facing now due to the Covid-19 outbreak, more and more motorsport championships are affected, and with no certain date to return, drastic measures have been taken until this moment, which affected the British rounds of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

The usual trip to United Kingdom was set to start the action in May, with the Sprint Cup race at Brands Hatch being held on the 2nd and 3rd, while a week later the Endurance Cup would visit Silverstone on the 10th. The problem is, due to the coronavirus, Motorsport UK declared that all motorsport activity in the country is suspended until June 30th, in response of the lockdown imposed by the UK government for three weeks, and this effectively took down any opportunity of the races being held in their estimate dates, though the current developments of the pandemic would still make it impossible to carry on in later dates after the suspension.

SRO declared via an statement that alternatives for the calendar are in consideration and an announcement is about to come, but with a calendar that is getting tighter and tighter, options become more limited. The season start is now set for the Paul Ricard 1000 on May 30th, but with the situation of the pandemic being far away from an improvement, a postponement may be on the way as most motorsport events of the month are either postponed or cancelled, and with the importance of being a test round for those who will compete in the 24 Hours of Spa, the French race can be moved back.

Silverstone and Brands Hatch join a cancellation list that also has Monza on it, though the Italian circuit saw Imola replacing it as an end of season event.
