World RX reveals 2020 calendar with some voids to fill

´
Although still having a 2019 season to wrap up, the FIA World Rallycross Championship is well advanced in its moves concerning the 2020 season, with most of the schedule already being confirmed.

The provisional 2020 calendar was revealed midweek, and it will have an extra round compared to the current season, going to a total of 11 events, of which nine are confirmed in terms of venue and date, with the announced entry of the Nürburgring finalizing the circuit details.

Even though there’s an extra round, three venues aren’t seen in the initial list, which probably will make some fans scratch their heads in concern, which are Silverstone, Trois-Rivières and Riga, with most of it coming as a surprise.

About the calendar itself, the start of the season goes back to Barcelona after kicking off at Abu Dhabi this year, being it the only April event. After this comes the expected return of Montalegre, Portugal, with the month of May having also the Benelux round at Spa-Francorchamps, seen with a lot of expectation given the success it was in 2019.

The Norwegian round at Hell slots itself as the only event in June, and still in Scandinavia, the competitors go to Sweden at the temple that is Höljes. After Sweden, there’s a slot reserved for a mid-July event, with venue to be confirmed.

August is focused entirely in the World RX of Germany return and the debut of the Nürburgring in rallycross, followed the by the crown jewel event at Lohéac and another September event to be confirmed, and then the World RX goes out of Europe to end the season with Abu Dhabi, moved to late October, and Cape Town, staying as the season finale in mid November.

The calendar stays provisional until the next FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting.
