Ekström set for RallyX Nordic participation at Tierp Arena

It seems that the rallycross bug still bites the World RX champion Mattias Ekström, as he will be competing again this year, although now he will be at home, racing in the RallyX Nordic season finale at the Tierp Arena, in Sweden.

The plan for the nordic effort is the same that put Ekström as a wildcard at the Spa RX this year, with Ekström taking the same Audi S1 EKS RX and having JC Racetekinik running the effort. This S1 in specific is the one Ekström used to conquer his World RX title in 2016, though with a few updates included, along with the competitive aspect of the event, Ekström will work along JC Raceteknik to develop setups and other things.

Ekström is pretty much retired from racing since 2018, but this doesn’t mean he isn’t a busy man, as he is splitting himself between leading the support to the teams using his Audis in rallycross - EKS itself, Monster Energy RX Cartel and JC Raceteknik, and being a development driving for the CUPRA E-Racer electric car that will be part of the new E-TCR championship.

By the way, the already past Latvia RX was the first time the three EKS supported squads competed together and Ekström watching it trackside while giving some tips, with Monster Energy RX Cartel getting the best of it with a podium for Andreas Bakkerud and a sixth place for Liam Doran.

Ekström demonstrated at Spa-Francorchamps that he still has the pace to compete in the World stage, though he left the competition at the semifinals, and his aim for the Tierp Arena event is obviously a win.

The Tierp Arena finale will be held on September 21st.
