Volkswagen ID.R becomes the first electric car in RaceRoom

The presence of electric cars is growing day by day, and this is happening in motorsports too, though on a smaller scale. The sim racing world is following the trend and Sector3 Studios added the first electric car into RaceRoom Racing Experience, with an update to incorporate electric powertrains.

The car in question is a real beast, being the Volkswagen ID.R prototype, known for its record smashing deeds at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, though the one joining RaceRoom is an evolution of the original model, with its aerodynamic tweaked in order to take on another challenge: beating the electric car lap record at the mighty Nordschleife, which currently belongs to the NIO EP9 supercar.

At the moment the ID.R was released to RaceRoom, the car didn’t have a single mile around the 22 km track, and this meant no telemetry data for Sector3 to look at and also the postponement of DRS implementation in the ID.R, though this will come in a later update.

Romain Dumas will do the driving again in the ID.R, but everyone who has RaceRoom can repeat the experience at home, thanks to a new competition called the Volkswagen ID.R Challenge, which gives nice prizes for the best times on it. By the way, Dumas can be found in the leaderboard as he did some laps in the virtual ID.R, so it’s up to you to go and challenge him.

RaceRoom is a PC exclusive and it’s only the second simulator to support electric car physics, with RFactor 2 being the other one as it has the two generations of Formula E machinery.
