Andretti retains Foust and calls Bigham for the second Beetle

The final piece of the Andretti Rallycross puzzle was revealed this week as there is still some good time before the start of the 2019 Americas Rallycross Championship season, with the drivers announcement not having that much surprises from the team.

In fact, when the double Volkswagen Beetle RX program was revealed with confirmed support from the German manufacturer, no driver names were confirmed, which raised a doubt or two about World RX event winner and ARX runner-up Tanner Foust being retained by the team, though this is no more a matter to discuss, with the Top Gear USA presenter staying in the Beetle cockpit for 2019 with the usual Rockstar Energy Drink backing on it.

Foust was around Scott Speed during the whole 2018 ARX season, with his wins at Silverstone and COTA II being the proof, and this time his prowess and experience will be the reference to the team, but having titles in rallycross and drifting makes him as versatile as the team he is defending, so the extra weight on his shoulders shouldn’t be a burden.

The bigger doubt was surrounding the second car, with the question being who will be the one to replace the ARX champion Scott Speed, who moved to Subaru Rally Team USA, and the answer to this came with young blood in the name of Cabot Bigham. The “Big Ham” comes with well spent four years of career, though in between this the 22 years old driver achieved a GRC Lites title in his debut season and he already has supercar experience from the defunct Global Rallycross with Bryan Herta Rallysport.

The first round of the 2019 ARX season will be on June 9th at Mid-Ohio, with the Andretti Beetles being followed by Steve Arpin and a three car program from Subaru as the confirmed entries.
