Vincenzo Sospiri Racing set to return to Blancpain GT Asia

After sitting out of the Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia in 2018 and focus attention in Europe, Vincenzo Sospiri Racing is going back to the series for the second full season on it, with some significant changes compared to their last visit to the Asian continent.

The global trend to machine renovation in the GT3 class will see VSR change to a new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo car for 2019 after competing in Asia with the previous version of the Italian sportscar, with the class changing to the Pro-Am Cup after competing in the Silver Cup in 2017 as Alex Au and Frederik Schandorff will do the driving.

Au comes from two distinct campaigns in 2017 and 2018, first using an Audi R8 LMS GT3 and then driving a Mercedes AMG GT4 with iRaceWin, with both of them leading to some class podiums during the way, and the use of a Lamborghini breaks quite the sequence of a faithful Audi driver, even though Au is recently competing with other manufacturers and even in other classes.

Schandorff jumps into the GT3 world after dominating the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East recently and filling his 2018 season with the Italian single-make championship. With Lamborghini and Denmark being the current champions in Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia, the 22-year old boy may continue the tradition if he adapts well to GT3.

VSR participation in Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia included three class podiums and a class win at Suzuka with Sandy Stuvik having the company of different drivers, like Yuki Nemoto, Christopher Dreyspring, Nicolas Costa and 2018 champion Martin Kodric. Curiously, part of the VSR drivers will be concentrated in Asia, with Nemoto joining the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia while Costa will be in an “outside” commitment for B-Max Racing in Super Taikyu and at the Suzuka 10 Hours, which is part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

The 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia season will start on April 6th and 7th at Sepang, Malaysia.
