Modena Motorsport joins Blancpain GT Asia with two Porsches

A regular team in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Modena Motorsports is stepping up their game in the continent as a pair of new Porsche 911 GT3R will be fielded in Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia, with Rebellion Racing ace Mathias Beche as one of the stars in the program.

Beche will share one of the Porsches with Modena Motorsport founder John Shen in the Pro-Am Cup, with Danish driver Benny Simonsen taking Beche’s seat from Buriram onwards. Beche will have the final two rounds of the FIA WEC to race with Rebellion Racing, and with both races being a week before the Chang and Suzuka weekends, the Swiss driver would probably go back after his Rebellion Racing commitments.

Beche your typical prototype guy, with most of his career being in high downforce sportscars, though recently he increased his number of GT and touring car racing participations, being one of them with Modena Motorsports in the 24H SERIES.

Simonsen on the other side is geared towards GT machinery, with a good part of his career being spent in Asia and Australia, and was part of the Modena Motorsport crew that won the 4 Hours of Shanghai in the only GT Cup appearance of the 2018/2019 Asian Le Mans season.

The other Porsche 911 GT3R will compete in the Am Cup with Modena Motorsport co-founder and expert endurance racer Francis Tjia, with his partner still needing to be confirmed, though the team is expected to look at their own driver roster to complete the lineup.

The season starts at Sepang on April 6th and 7th.
