Honda Racing will take part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge

2019 marks a new chapter for Honda in GT3 racing as the new NSX GT3 Evo appears takes place of the original race-trimmed machine, following the trend of evolved cars that appeared recently, and with this a global approach has came in as a participation in the Intercontinental GT Challenge with Honda Racing.

In fact, Honda Racing is essentially JAS Motorsport, with the company responsible for building and supporting the NSX GT3 programs worldwide also coming in as a team like in the Super 2000 days of WTCC. Of course, the competitive history is more recent and the Honda NSX GT3 is part of it.

A participation at the Suzuka 10 Hours and at the TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa count as their experience in IGTC, though these two entries were far from similar, with the Japanese race going in the Pro Cup with a local lineup while the Spa entry was a Pro-Am entry with some factory Honda drivers on it.

The IGTC effort will see Belgian ace Bertrand Baguette be joined by Dutchman Renger van der Zande and Mario Farnbacher, with two of them already having mileage with the Honda NSX GT3. Baguette was the Spa effort last year and participated of a one-off race with JAS Motorsport in the International GT Open, while van der Zande, a driver with multiple abilities, was the driver of the first global effort for the NSX GT3, being it the short-lived effort in the FIA GT World Cup at Macau.

Mario Farnbacher is the newest guy of the bunch as the experienced German joined the Honda efforts after being part of the development of another GT3 machine, the Lexus RC F GT3, but started the replacement last year with Meyer Shank Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, then making the move full time this year.

The first challenge of the Honda Racing NSX GT3 Evo will be the California 8 Hours at Laguna Seca on March 30th.
