RJN Motosport will race with Honda in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup

After some good years dedicating their GT3 efforts to Nissan, RJN Motorsport will switch to another Japanese manufacturer in 2019, as not only Honda but also Jenson Button appear to form an alliance with them for the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.

Naturally their affiliation with Honda means they will use the new Honda NSX GT3 Evo, but despite the affiliation with Button, the team will campaign in the Silver Cup, with the team being known as Jenson Team Rocket RJN, with the Rocket naming being reminiscent of the karting team Rocket Motorsport that John Button, Jenson’s father and skilled rallycross racer, founded and had great success in the British karting scene.

The new team also sees versatile sportscar racer Chris Buncombe taking care of the commercial side of the GT3 program and of other projects where Rocket Motorsport is related.

RJN Motorsport is coming off from separate efforts in the Pro Cup and Silver Cup in the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup with the 2017 and 2018 versions of the Nissan GT-R GT3, which ended, with the Pro Cup squad getting the best result of fifth at the Paul Ricard 1000, while the Silver Cup side got a class podium at Silverstone and came nearly close the class top-5 in the standings.

This was the end of long relationship with Nissan, which was also really close with GT Academy, the program that united Nissan, Polyphony Digital and Sony in a quest to find new real life drivers by using Gran Turismo, with the majority of the graduates being part of RJN Motorsport at some point. The relationship also meant a good amount of titles coming in, being them in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup (GT3 Pro Cup, GT3 Pro-Am Cup and the only GT4 title of the series) and GT4 European Series, along with race wins in British GT Championship and the Bathurst 12 Hour.

Driver announcements will come at a later date, and there’s the prospect for a second Honda NSX GT3 Evo that will be added only for the TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa.
