United Autosports set to put FIA WEC in the schedule

United Autosports is a team known for its variety of activities on track, as GTs, touring cars and prototypes are or were part of the team’s history, not to mention the many specs they raced. Their adventure in the LMP2 class will gain a new chapter soon, as the Anglo-American squad will be in the FIA World Endurance Championship next season.

The program will be limited to a single entry and the car was an obvious choice in the stable, as the Ligier JS P217 will gain another page in the team’s history, being already part of them in the European Le Mans Series and in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. In fact, the partnership with the recently renamed Ligier Automotive sees them act in different fronts, as the mentioned championships share the schedule with the Asian Le Mans Series, where the Ligier JS P2 and the Ligier JS P3 are fielded.

As for the drivers, Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson were the choices for the moment, with both being winning material, even before joining United Autosports. Albuquerque has already went past the time when he was an Audi factory driver, especially with some good achievements in the LMP2 and DPi classes, while Hanson came to the spotlight thanks to Tockwith Motorsport, being immediately brought to United Autosports once Tockwith parted ways with him, and then he became one of the fastest drivers of the team.

The 2019/2020 FIA WEC season starts on September 1st at Silverstone, coming with a lot of changes in race lenghts, venues, classes and regulations.
