PSRX Volkswagen Sweden will take a sabbatical from World RX

The list of disbanding teams in the FIA World Rallycross Championship now has a new entry, with PSRX Volkswagen Sweden will be absent of the 2019 season while considering the options available for the future.

The reason that was decisive to step back from the World RX was the lack of competitors in the championship, as not only Peugeot and Audi left with their backing, but also EKS announced that will cease its rallycross activities on a full time basis and Olsbergs MSE will take a sabbatical in 2019 in order to prepare for the time when the championship goes electric, in which Volkswagen will take an eye on.

PSRX Volkswagen Sweden was clearly the dominant force in 2017 and 2018, when their pair of World Rally Car-derived Polo GTi RX cars conquered the drivers and teams titles, with Johan Kristoffersson becoming a double World champion while Petter Solberg finally conquered the so much awaited teams title, a void to fill since his World RX titles in 2014 and 2015.

The alternatives for Solberg and Kristoffersson are all around them, as WRC, rallying with the Volkswagen Polo R5 car and even the World Touring Car Cup are considered.

At the moment the World RX only has ESMotorsport confirmed as an entry with a Skoda Fabia for Nasser Al-Attiyah.
