Baumanis stays with STARD for 2019 World RX effort

Janis Baumanis is an example in rallycross in two ways, one of them being that he’s part of a very talented list of young guns coming to the FIA World Rallycross Championship, and also for being one of the guys responsible to establish Latvia in the world stage, also having a deserving event in the calendar at home in Riga. Also, the good news is that Baumanis is staying in World RX to return to Bikernieki in 2019.

Baumanis will stay with STARD after being the main driver for the Austrian team in 2018, though plans for Manfred Stohl and his squad include having a second car at some point of the championship, and along with this, both machines will completely new as STARD is already working on new rides, which will not only benefit the team, but also any potential customers they have in the way.

Baumanis had quite an impressive 2018 considering he was his own reference in the STARD squad as Timur Timerzyanov moved to GRX TANECO and Joni-Pekka Rajala and Ma Qing Hua came as one-off entries, as he was a quite regular contender in semifinals and even found his place in the Canada RX final, and all of this helped him finish ninth in the standings, being the best of the totally private efforts on it.

Team owner and former World RX regular Manfred Stohl explained that STARD’s focus stays mainly in rallycross despite efforts in multiple disciplines, especially with the change to electric power coming, something where STARD is already deeply involved with their HIPER MK1 project.

There’s no expectation as for the exact time when the new car will be revealed, as well the confirmation of a second entry.
