2019 World RX calendar announced, Montalegre and Estering out

It looks like less is more will be the policy for the FIA World Rallycross Championship, with the 2019 calendar announced with 11 events instead of the usual 12, and not including two classic venues on it.

While the balance between the grassroots rallycross venues and the modern ones based on FIA Grade 1 tracks is being kept, it’s obvious that there’s growth from the modern side, with five of them also holding a Grand Prix event.

The calendar starts outside Europe with the previously announced Abu Dhabi RX on April 6th, followed by the Barcelona RX on April 28th and the Spa RX on May 12th. May still has the Silverstone RX on the 26th, with the Hell and Höljes double in June and July, and after that it’s time for the second overseas event in Trois-Rivières.

Back to Europe, the Lohéac RX and the Latvia RX are held in September and end the European tour, with the COTA RX coming on September 29th and the Cape Town RX to close the season on December 1st.

Also worth notice is that Montalegre and Estering will join Mettet as the venue which will leave the World RX, and about the matter, Estering’s Andreas Steffen opted to drop the World RX in favor of a standalone Euro RX event, as he mentioned that the bigger grids and better financial risk management were the main factors to go this waym while Montalegre were caught on surprise with the news, as the circuit had a recently signed 5-year contract to hold the World RX round until 2023, so they are in contact with promoter IMG about the matter.
