Marklund joins GCK for three-car operation for the rest of the season

Anton Marklund is a well known figure in the FIA World Rallycross Championship paddock, being there with its own Marklund Motorsport operation as well the Volkswagen RX Team Sweden that was joint with Kristoffersson Motorsports, but now the Swede will join another team as GCK will have him competing in a third GCK Megane R.S. RX for the rest of the season.

Marklund comes from two World RX starts and another season completed in the European Rallycross Championship, though he couldn’t repeat the title-winning campaign in 2017 and had to see Reinis Nitiss lift the trophy this year, and with no more commitments in the season, he was free to join Guerlain Chicherit’s side, which will include an entry in the Americas Rallycross Championship season finale at the Circuit of the Americas and the remainder of the World RX season, starting with the American round.

While the World RX campaign will be a three-car operation, matching Peugeot for example, team boss Guerlain Chicherit will not take part of the ARX finale, leaving the task for Marklund and Liam Doran, in what’s like a comeback for the team as its junior squad G-Fors entered a Renault Clio R.S. RX for Philippe Maloigne at the championship debut at Silverstone.

Marklund himself is coming back to USA after many years out, and by coincidence Doran also competed in USA at that time and he also has a start in ARX this year with his own LD Motorsports operation in a Citroën DS3 RX, so he may bring valuable advice on how to take on the Volkswagen Andretti Beetles that were dominating the ARX.

The World RX of USA and the ARX finale at Austin will be held in the same weekend on September 29th and 30th.
