Lamborghini quits LMGTE project

A possible Lamborghini Huracán GTE program was quite a story as a sign of the boom of the class since the arrival of the new regulations, but some key factors made the Italian manufacturer call it quits and focus in their current products.

In an interview to Sportscar365, Squadra Corse’s Giorgio Sanna explained that the instability in the sportscar market and its regulations was a decisive factor to make the choice to call off the LMGTE program, as the future ‘Hypercar’ regulations for the LMP1 class may have a direct effect in the manufacturer presence in the top production class, even though none of the current LMGTE manufacturers openly demonstrated a willingness to move to the upcoming prototype spec.

Lamborghini has quite a good customer program in both GT3 and GT Cup levels, with an Evo kit already in action for the Huracán Super Trofeo and an Evo kit set to be put in the GT3 version, with some details being taken from the Super Trofeo machinery, though there’s no certain date for its debut.

The GT3 program will remain the top level for Lamborghini in the moment, with established programs getting great results in almost all continents, with South America and Endurance Brasil being one of the most recent additions to the list.
