Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R to make Japan debut at Suzuka 10H

Callaway Competition is broadening the reach of the Corvette C7 GT3-R after some good time racing only in Germany, and after an adventure in North America to race in Pirelli World Challenge, the next destination is Asia, more specifically Suzuka, in Japan, for the next round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the newly formed Suzuka 10 Hours.

This time Callaway Competition will not be in an effort on their own, as a partnership with exotic car dealership Bingo Sports will see its owner Shinji Takei join Porsche Scolarship driver Yuta Kamimura and Porsche Carrera Cup Japan runner-up Yuichi Mikasa in an Am Cup lineup with lots of national experience, as not only the trio competed against each other in PCCJ, but also Takei beat the other two for overall honors in 2017, and depending of how fast they will adapt to the C7 GT3-R, their pace balance will be a nice trump card on their hands.

Callaway Competition’s entry breaks a Corvette GT3 hiatus in top level sportscar racing that lasts five years in Japan, as DIJON Racing was the last team to enter the car in Super GT, still being a Z06.R in the GT300 class, and Callaway machinery isn’t seen at Suzuka since 2012, with DIJON Racing opting to focus their efforts in their Nissan GT-R GT3 from 2014 onwards, while the Z06.R GT3 still had some good years of racing in Europe, specially in ADAC GT Masters.

The Suzuka 10 Hours will be held on August 26th, counting with around 30 cars in its entry list and huge participation of local teams, as Blancpain GT Asia teams like ARN Racing, D’Station Racing and CARGUY Racing join Super GT GT300 stalwarts like Audi Sport Hitotsuyama, Drago Corse, GoodSmile Racing, JLOC, GAINER, Rn-Sports, Team UPGARAGE and Cars Tokai Dream28, with a full factory Honda team also joining the party.
