WRT gets thrilling Race 1 win at Misano

WRT had another race win to add to its records during the Race 1 of the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup weekend at Misano, but Christopher Mies and Alex Riberas didn’t have it easy as pressure was always behind the No. 1 Audi during the whole race.

The start was somehow incident free, though this wasn’t indicating there would be an easy life for those in the front pack. Nico Jamin was holding the lead in the No. 87 AKKA-ASP Mercedes, but the threat of the rest of the field coming was still there and really close.

Things were going smooth for the No. 87 as Nico Jamin was opening the gap, but with almost 10 minutes of racing the Mercedes AMG GT3 simply stopped at the main straight, and handed the lead to the No. 1 WRT Audi. A brief caution period right after this saw Nico Bastian in the No. 90 AKKA-ASP Mercedes sneak into first place and keep it until the pit window.

Unlike most of the field the No. 90 was opting for a longer stint before the pit stop, but once Jack Manchester gained control of the car, he wasn’t able to cope with the pave of the Pro Cup competitors, though he still had the Silver Cup lead, but Mikael Grenier in the No. 54 Emil Frey Jaguar soon gave a reason to worry for Manchester, as the battle for the class win was still on.

As for the overall lead, the No. 1 WRT Audi had the No. 88 AKKA-ASP on its back wing during the whole stint, and despite the close gap,Raffaelle Marciello was unable to improve the pace to attack Christopher Mies.

As for the Silver Cup clash, the No. 90 AKKA-ASP Mercedes held station and conquered their first win in the class, while Pro-Am Cup honors went to the No. 26 Saintéloc Audi.
