Perfect Hell RX weekend for Kristoffersson ends with a win

No driver was even capable of matching Johan Kristoffersson’s pace during the FIA World Rallycross Championship weekend at Hell, in Norway, as the Swede topped the qualifiers, the semifinal and had a dominant win in the final, his fourth in the 2018 season.

Johan Kristoffersson incredibly dominant during the qualifiers, winning all heats and topping the table. In between the World RX regulars and the wildcards, former F1 and FIA WEC driver Alexander Wurz made his rallycross debut in a progressive way, ending in 18th in the standings.

On semifinal 1 the PSRX VW cars took different routes as usual while leading their packs, with Kristoffersson being on top. The Swedish driver was fast enough to not be threatened by anyone, while Petter Solberg saw Andreas Bakkerud break a possible PSRX VW 1-2 by coming home second, while the World RX double champion finished third.

The Peugeots locked the front row on semifinal 2, but Mattias Ekström almost stole the show with a perfect start. Timmy Hansen was on a mission to hold the lead, while Kevin Hansen was pushing hard as he had a clear way ahead. Ekström succeeded in breaking the Hansen combo, but was unable to take the victory from Timmy Hansen, while Kevin Hansen came home third.

The big teams locked the Final grid but PSRX VW was in command again, especially after the contact between Timmy Hansen and Andreas Bakkerud. Mattias Ekström overtook Petter Solberg but the pace to attack Kristoffersson wasn’t there, so the Swede had another easy win.

Kristoffersson leaves Norway with 135 points and in the lead, with Loeb having 104, Solberg having 102 and Bakkerud being fourth with 101 points. PSRX VW leads the teams standings with 237, way ahead of Peugeot and EKS, both with 198 points.

The top driver and team now will race at home, as the next World RX stop will be the famous Höljes circuit in Sweden on July 1st, which attracts huge crowds and brings lots of action.
