CarGuy Racing set to rejoin Blancpain GT Asia grid

Winners at Fuji Speedway last year, Japanese squad CarGuy Racing is set to a return to the Blancpain GT Series Asia, eager to repeat the feat done last year and with few changes to the repeat the same partial campaign in the competition.

Since the victory achieved last year, some changes were done in the team led by Takeshi Kimura, with them prioritizing the Super GT championship in place of the Super Taikyu Series, and while their full time effort in Japanese competitions features a recently acquired Honda NSX GT3, this one will not appear in Blancpain GT Series Asia, as they will enter the same Lamborghini Huracán GT3 used in 2017.

The changes compared to 2017 start to appear from this point on, as a revised driver lineup will see team owner Takeshi Kimura join the cockpit to share with Lamborghini factory driver Kei Cozzolino, and with Naoki Yokomizo not returning, CarGuy’s entry will be competing in the GT3 Pro-Am Cup instead of the Silver Cup.

Cozzolino said that the team is eager to repeat the 2017 victory, though now having the experience accumulated this year in Super GT as their base, as the longer multiclass races in Super GT offer it and with GT3 competition being as close as in Blancpain GT Series Asia, even though the needs to race on traffic with the monster GT500 cars are different from racing the GT4s of the GT Series Asia.

CarGuy Racing isn’t the only local team jumping on track for a Japanese quest, as Porsche Team EBI, D’Station Racing and SACCESS Racing will all return and will boost grid numbers by a reasonable amount, with the first meeting in Japan being at Suzuka on June 30th and July 1st, and then they will go to Fuji on July 21st and 22nd.
