WRT completes Brands Hatch sweep with Race 2 win

The Audi R8 LMS GT3 just confirmed its dominance at Brands Hatch in the second Blancpain GT Sprint Cup weekend, scoring a Le Mans-like 1-2-3 finish commanded by the No. 17 WRT car of Stuart Leonard and Frederic Vervisch.

The start and the dash to Paddock Hill was tight, so tight that the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes almost found a way into the gravel trap, though same luck wasn’t with the No. 35 SMP Mercedes and both Team Parker Bentleys crashing while at another point the No. 19 GRT Lamborghini also retired, which brought the first Safety Car period.

The restart didn’t bring any changes, though the No. 63 GRT Lamborghini was threatened to lose the fifth sport as the No. 26 Saintéloc Audi was pressing it and looking for a way past. Not even the pit window was able to shake things up, so WRT was still leading with the No. 17 car.

The final portion of the race saw the Audis keeping close distance between themselves while opening the gap to the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes and the No. 63 GRT Lamborghini, but in the end the No. 17 WRT Audi wasn’t even disturbed by the No. 1 WRT car or the No. 66 Attempto car and went straight to the checkered.

After being hit by a penalty in Race 1, the No. 37 3Y BMW got Silver Cup honors while the No. 26 Saintéloc survived a late battle to win the Pro-Am Cup.

The No. 66 Attempto Audi crew leads the standings with 24 points with the No. 63 GRT Lamborghini crew in second with 20,5 points. As for the teams, GRT leads Attempto by a point, being 27 points against 26, and WRT comes in third with 20, 5 points.

The Blancpain GT Series keeps its way into United Kingdom, now going to Silverstone for the second Endurance Cup round on May 20th, while the Sprint Cup continues on June 23rd and 24th at Misano.

Pay attention that at the Misano round will be the guys of KUNOS Simulazioni, gathering more data for Assetto Corsa Competizione and there will be even test copies of the title for those who want to try it.
