New Porsche 911 GT3R revealed

Even though the current version of the Porsche 911 GT3R is producing good results around the world, the Stuttgart manufacturer though it was time to present a new GT3 car, ready for customers next year.

The new 911 GT3 R was presented at Nürburgring this weekend following the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race, and is based in the current 911 GT3 RS road car, with a 4 liter flat six engine that produces 550 hp and is largely similar to the road going power unit.

The particular focus in the new 911 GT3R was aerodynamics, with heavy work done in the rear end like the reduction of the rear wing width by 10 centimeters, and while the width suffered no changes, the length of the car suffered a slight increase compared to its predecessor. The brakes also feature changes, in special the slight increase of the front brake discs and ABS improvements for better braking. The 120 litre fuel tank now can be accessed in both sides of the car to help in pit stops, independent of the pit lane orientation of any track.

The cockpit suffered a redesign to ensure an increase in the driver safety, as well ease of access of all controls. A new racing bucket seat and an additional element in the door will improve driver protection during an impact, and gone is the tradition round steering wheel in favor of a formula-style one with much more controls on it. Also, for the first time, a 911 GT3R will feature an air conditioning system. Even though the endurance kit is mentioned as an optional package, it’s still unknown how the kit is featured in the new car.

The new Porsche 911 GT3R will face tough competition in the class market when the launch time arrives, as Aston Martin has already announced a GT3 version of the new Vantage and McLaren is rumored to prepare a GT3 version of the 720S model.
