Foust leads Volkswagen Andretti to first ARX triumph at Silverstone

A championship leaves, another takes place and the Volkswagen Andretti team is still dominant with their pair of Beetle RX models as Tanner Foust led a 1-2 for the team in the first Americas Rallycross Championship event at Silverstone.

In semifinal 1, Tanner Foust kept the lead and wasn’t threatened at any moment, leaving Timo Scheider and Patrik Sandell to fight each other for second. While Foust was cruising to the finish and the win, Sandell’s late Joker strategy proved to be uneffective against Scheider, and Scheider kept second place while Sandell finished third.

Scott Speed did his job in the second semifinal by leading from lights to checkered, with Liam Doran coming in second after a daring move in the first corner right after the start. The thrill was with David Higgins trying his way against René Münnich, and the Subaru driver succeeded in the final laps by holding the inside line and giving no space to Münnich.

David Higgins almost went to disaster course as his Subaru WRX wasn’t starting, but a last minute push let him go to the starting line. In the race for real, Higgins jumped the start and his problems were increased with another Joker along with his mechanical issues.

The when they started, Scheider got himself between the Andretti Beetles, and Liam Doran was with eyes on the podium as he started the attack on Scott Speed.

Tanner Foust had it in control for the whole time, and this became evident when Scheider binned his SEAT Ibiza and retired, and the series of events somehow propelled Speed to second. Foust just had to push to the win while Speed came in a comfortable second, and Doran completed the podium by holding the hard charge of Patrik Sandell in the final laps.

The championship now goes to the United States, as the Circuit of the Americas is the next destination on July, as the debut event of the new rallycross circuit inside the complex.
