GruppeM wins again at Sepang

GruppeM Racing kept the Mercedes AMG GT3 in the winning ways in the Blancpain GT Series Asia, but this time the No. 888 car had a trouble free race thanks to an incredible charge of Raffaele Marciello and the control of Brice Bosi.

The race started with contrasting scenes for GruppeM Racing, as the No. 888 Mercedes was dominating the pack and pushing more, while the winning No. 999 Mercedes sustained a puncture that destroyed the left rear corner of the car, and after five laps of repairs, the No. 999 was able to get back for what was considered a competitive test session.

With open way ahead, the No. 888 GruppeM Mercedes was quick to establish a good gap thanks to Raffaele Marciello, and unlikely the GT3 car, the GT4 Mercedes from the same team was having a dramatic fight for the lead as the No. 72 iRace.Win Mercedes and the No. 81 Studie BMW were really close.

Even having to stay in the pits for extra 5 seconds, the No. 888 kept a huge margin for the second placed car, and with the No. 37 Absolute Audi not offering any possibility of a threat, Brice Bosi just had to cruise until the checkered flag. The No. 63 FFF Lamborghini took the third place at the line after a four way battle during the final minutes and completed a full Pro-Am Cup podium sweep.

Absolute Racing won in the Silver Cup with the No. 3 Audi which finished fourth overall, while KCMG completed the Am Cup sweep with the No. 45 Audi. The No. 72 iRaceWin Mercedes survived a tough battle with the No. 82 Studie BMW to claim GT4 class honors.

The pair of the No. 888 GruppeM Mercedes leads the championship with 40 points against 26 of the pairs of the No. 19 FFF Lamborghini and the No. 37 Absolute Audi, also leading the Pro-Am Cup. The No. 3 Absolute Audi leads the Silver Cup and the No. 45 KCMG Audi is king in the Am Cup, while the GT4 standings are monopolized by the Mercedes of GruppeM and iRaceWin.

Thailand is the next Blancpain GT Series Asia destination, as Buriram will hold the second event on May 12th and 13th.
