Grönholm RX confirms cars and drivers for 2018

Another rallycross family confirmed their plans this Tuesday after the Hansen announcement with Peugeot, as Grönholm RX is expanding its program to a double Hyundai effort while bringing a new partner for the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship season.

The team continues the partnership with SET Promotion, responsible for a good part of the career of Niclas Grönholm, who is staying as the driver of the Finnish team, but after being a lone Ford guy in 2017, Grönholm will drive a Hyundai i20 RX supercar, and he will have the company of Russian star Timur Timerzyanov in a second Hyundai. SET Promotion has also a relationship with Timur, being the team in one of the three Euro RX titles of the Russian before he moved to Team Peugeot-Hansen.

The base for the i20 RX comes from the i20 WRC in the same fashion of PSRX VW and JRM, though this program is more like the JRM one due to the absence of factory support, so GRX Taneco owner Marcus Grönholm said they would rely in all the information they got about the cars.

Both Grönholm and Timerzyanov come from performances below their expectations last year in their Fiestas, so the current year is the time to improve, and their participations in finals in 2017 (one for each driver) prove they can be competitive enough for top flight results.

This is the first time that a full time Hyundai entry is competing in World RX, but a privateer entry from Frode Holte appeared in a few events in the past years.
