Americas Rallycross, here we go!

Rallycross in the North America grew quite a lot since the establishment of the Global Rallycross Championship, but now World RX promoter IMG is joining the party with a new championship, the Americas Rallycross Championship, launched this week.

In fact what IMG did was to capitalize in what GRC ditched this year as the Supercar class was ruled out out and in place came the Gold class, with tuned Supercar Lites cars. This will be the second regional rallycross championship under the IMG wing and along with the supercars the competition will feature an ARX2 class with the Lites cars built by Olsbergs MSE. The cars will race on Cooper Tires rubber, the same used for the World RX.

The calendar for 2018 is confirmed to follow the World RX as a support event, with the start being at Silverstone’s Speedmachine on May 25th, followed by Trois-Rivières on August 5th and Austin on September 30th, with a fourth standalone round in the United States that awaits confirmation of the venue.

The announcement was the trigger for the former GRC squads to start confirming their intentions, as Volkswagen of America and Andretti Autosport already revealed they will enter ARX with a factory-supported program, while Subaru Rally Team USA is heavily interested in joining the competition. As for Olsbergs and their Honda program, the Civic Coupé was seen at Lohéac during the World RX pre-season testing, and while the cars are available, they won’t be the main entries for the Swedish team as they will field a pair of newly-built Ford Fiestas.

Subaru is no stranger to the World RX scene as they fielded a car for Sverre Isachsen at Trois-Rivières in 2014.
