Bakkerud is announced as an EKS driver

“Yes, I am the new EKS driver.” Those were the words of Norwegian driver Andreas Bakkerud, already in Audi gear as he announced that he is joining EKS from 2018 onwards as Mattias Ekström’s team mate.

The announcement was made by Bakkerud himself in his YouTube channel this Wednesday (1), explaining it’s an honor to join the team, while he gave some nice details of Ekström’s interest in counting with him earlier than now, which was postponed as EKS was still a new team and needed time to mount a proper program in the FIA World Rallycross Championship back in 2014, and this led to Bakkerud joining Olsbergs MSE and then Hoonigan Racing Division.

Bakkerud comes of abrupt ends of his commitments in World RX as his ties with both Olsbergs and Hoonigan ended because the teams left the competition at the end of the 2015 and 2017 seasons respectively, but he made a name for himself as an excellent character and a proven event winner, scoring three wins with Olsbergs and three with Hoonigan, and was a title contender in the 2016 season until the late stages of the competition.

Not only the smiley Norwegian is shown but also some hints of the evolved Audi S1 EKS RX, which seems to be already in tests. Ekström not only put all but one of his past S1 RX to sale, but also saw Toomas Heikkinen and Reinis Nitiss say goodbye still in 2017, and though there are no news of the drivers, there are rumors that these cars already found a home elsewhere.
