BMW Team Studie confirms GT4 program for Blancpain GT Asia

Though the GT4 class was rather a success in the debut season of the Blancpain GT Series Asia, it lacked the variety of machinery seen in other championships using this spec around the world, but an entry from Japan may be the trigger for a change in the 2018 season, being it BMW Team Studie.

The Japanese team is set to commit with two new BMW M4 GT4 models for the whole season, being this not only the first non-Porsche full season entry in the series but also the first Japanese team to do such commitment. The only GT4 car that wasn’t a Porsche and raced in the GT4 class was a McLaren 570S GT4 run by Clearwater Racing, which only entered in a single weekend and never appeared again.

BMW Team Studie is a very well known name in Super GT in Japan, being a long time partner of Goodsmile Racing when they raced BMW Z4s until GSR and Studie part ways in 2014. Since then, BMW Team Studie has been a regular Super GT contender, first with the Z4 GT3 and then with the M6 GT3, being their current machine.

2017 had quite a number of Japanese teams joining Blancpain GT Series Asia in part-time commitments, with most of the teams emerging from the Super Taikyu Series, like ARN Racing, D’Station Racing and race winner Car Guy Racing, and while none of them gave even a hint of a return to the SRO-managed series, Car Guy Racing confirmed a Super GT program with a new Honda NSX GT3 in place of their race winning Lamborghini Huracán GT3. As for Studie, they still have to announce the drivers of the two cars, which will come at a later date.
