R-Motorsport confirms Martin and Thiim for Blancpain GT lineup

Swiss squad R-Motorsport announced big plans for a Blancpain GT Endurance Cup effort in 2018 with two models of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in collaboration with JOTA Sport and Arden Motorsport, but they revealed more details of the high profile program as Maxime Martin and Nicki Thiim were announced as their drivers.

Aston Martin factory driver, Dane Train member and YouTube streamer Nicki Thiim comes into R-Motorsport program with a load of experience in British machinery from his FIA WEC participations, which brought him a title in the LMGTE-Pro class in 2016 and an LMGTE-Am class win at the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans. He comes from a runner-up campaign in the European Le Mans Series, and although he has some good years in GT3 back when he was an Audi driver, he focused in LMGTE competition until this year, and along with his commitments in FIA WEC and Blancpain GT, he will also race in British GT next year, what brings to him quite a busy schedule.

Maxime Martin was a BMW factory driver until this month, when he left the Bavarian manufacturer and almost immediately joined the Aston Martin ranks, being confirmed to be racing in FIA WEC next season. With his primary focus being in DTM, Martin featured only a few times in GT3 and even in LMGTE machinery. Curiously, back in 2012 he had a single weekend in a Vantage V12 GT3 when he competed in the International GT Open with GPR Racing, and even won race back then.

Martin and Thiim will join the already confirmed Alex Brundle and Jake Dennis, with the final drivers for R-Motorsport’s two-car effort still to come.
