Strakka moves to Mercedes machinery in expanded effort

Strakka Racing had their taste of GT3 racing this year after a long time in the prototype scene, but this single season with McLaren machinery was hard enough for the British team to do a change of plans for 2018, and this is where Mercedes joins the show, as German power will move the Strakka colors in an endurance focused program.

Strakka Racing hardly remembered the top class endurance racing team from the Le Mans and WEC days, even though four cars were aligned this year, with two top-10 finishes in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup and not even achieving this in the Sprint Cup. This lack of performance and results made the team do a review in their plans, and after a test with the Mercedes AMG GT3 at Paul Ricard, the machine switch was almost immediate.

For 2018 Strakka will use three models of the AMG GT3, and will change the program to focus on endurance racing, with a full time attack in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup and also in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, with the debut of the Strakka/Mercedes combo being the Bathurst 12 Hours in February as the three machines are confirmed to race in Australia.

The first car is expected to arrive at Strakka’s headquarters this month and testing will come later on. As for the drivers, the team is evaluating the possibilities between their current roster and the Mercedes factory drivers.
