RallyX On Ice season ends with Kevin Eriksson getting the title

As the winter is coming to an end in the northern hemisphere, so is the RallyX On Ice championship, meaning that unfortunately it’s time to say goodbye to the rallycross tracks covered in pure white snow. Thomas Bryntesson reigned at Åre, while Kevin Eriksson conquered the title.

Miki Weckström was the fastest during the qualifying heats, but with guys like the GRC driver Patrik Sandell, the STCC driver Richard Göransson and RX Lites aces Thomas Bryntesson and Kevin Eriksson flying on the track, the coming phases would evidently be hard-fought. So much that Tejas Hirani from RX Lites and Sandell’s team mate at Bryan Herta Rallysport Austin Dyne were stuck in the heats.

The first semifinal receives the go signal and Miki Wekcström jumps ahead with Alexander Westlund but both are tricked by Thomas Bryntesson at the first corner.

Westlund tries to chase Bryntesson and takes the lead when Bryntesson made his joker lap. The long outside joker proved to be decisive in every race, and after everybody make their joker laps, Oliver Eriksson prevailed while being followed by Westlund, while Bryntesson ended in third.

Semifinal two starts with Jonathan Walfridsson taking the lead while Richard Göransson followed him. Göransson went to the joker and Patrik Sandell appeared to take second place.
While Walfridsson seemed to have the race in his hands in the last lap, Sandell got free of the battle with Göransson and Thomas Holmen and quickly got behind Walfridsson. On the last corner, Sandell was faster and got a nice angle to dash to victory, leaving Walfridsson barely behind, with Göransson beating Holmen to take third place and the last spot in the final.

The last final of the RallyX On Ice season didn’t count with Sandell on the starting grid, and started and Westlund goes to the lead while Eriksson and Göransson followed him. They kept going with the strategy of making a late joker lap.
Göransson then went to the joker lap with Eriksson going in a lap later, and as Westlund made the joker lap, he was caught in a contact with Kevin Eriksson and went straight to the snowbank. As Göransson couldn’t see anything due to the amount of snow being thrown to the air, he also missed the corner and slammed Westlund’s car. In the end, Thomas Bryntesson had an open road to him to claim victory as he kept himself out of trouble during the whole race, with Eriksson finishing second and Göransson completing the podium.

Unfortunately for Bryntesson, his triumph didn’t bring the RallyX On Ice trophy to the Gulf-sponsored machine, as Kevin Eriksson ended the championship with 40 points against 38 from Bryntesson.
