Photo of the weekend

Photo coming from Estoril, Portugal, as another team is leaving the sportscar world, but not without a big moment.

The Belgian squad Marc VDS was a pioneer this year for being the team which brought the BMW Z4 GTE car to compete in Europe, as they ran the full season with the Bavarian machine, ending the 2015 European Le Mans Series in second place in the LMGTE standings, only four points behind of the class champions of Formula Racing. To at least end the season on high note, the victory at the 4 Hours of Estoril yesterday (18).

Marc VDS was also responsible for the last race of the Z4 GTE, as in the 2016 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, is expected that the new BMW M6 GTLM will make its debut. Unfortunately, Marc VDS also made its last sportscar race, as the team will concentrate its operations only in their MotoGP program.

The team led by Marc van der Straeten was active on GT racing since 2005  and since then competed with different specs and models of machinery, like Gillet Vertigo, Ford GT GT1, and established itself in the GT3 competition, first with the Ford Mustang FR500 GT3 and then with the BMW Z4 GT3. Also, it had big names accelerating their lion-badged cars, like Bas Leinders, Maxime Martin, Markus Palttala and Nick Catsburg, just to name a few.

This blog owner can only say: thanks for the memories Marc VDS Racing Team!
