Wayne Taylor Racing quits Le Mans plans

1998 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner Wayne Taylor won’t make the trip to France with his team, Wayne Taylor Racing, to compete in the LMP2 category.

Wayne Taylor Racing, alongside Scuderia Corsa, were selected by IMSA to be invited to participate in the 2015 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, but Wayne Taylor opted to quit the invite, as he explained to Sportscar365 that a Le Mans adventure would be too off the road of WTR commitments on TUDOR United Sportscar Championship, where they run a Corvette DP, as it would involve buying an ACO compliant LMP2 car, cover all travel and accommodation costs, as well work in a car the team doesn’t know how to deal with.

Taylor stated if they had an LMP2 car, a Le Mans travel would be on the cards, but as budgets would be too high to handle, he opted to focus on the team’s USA program. And he didn’t ruled out a future travel to France, as he explained that a turnaround in their situation would let them do so, which will probably happen from 2017 onwards, when the LMP2 global regulations would be in force.

From Scuderia Corsa’s camp, a Le Mans 24 Hours program is about to be finalized, which will see the Los Angeles-based team compete for LMGTE-Am honours with a Ferrari 458, featuring an all-American lineup with Townsend Bell, Bill Sweedler and an unconfirmed third driver.
