Krohn and Rahal want to rise

Tracy Krohn and Bobby Rahal. Both of them are team owners, their teams run LMGTE machinery, and both want to go up to Le Mans Prototypes.

Mr. Krohn announced some months ago that would like to make a move up to LMP2 machines, and since then he conducted tests with different models to decide which one will suit his needs, alongside his loyal co-driver Nic Jönsson.

First he tried the Lotus T128 LMP2, which only competed in 2013, as Lotus switched to LMP1-L category, and most recently he tested the Ligier JS P2, that made its debut in the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, with positive results for its first outing. With the HPD-powered version of the model, Krohn and Jönsson ran at Magny-Cours circuit, with good impressions about the machine.

After choosing the model and engine, Krohn Racing plans for 2015 involve the endurance rounds of United Sportscar Championship, a full-season assault in European Le Mans Series or even some rounds of the World Endurance Championship.

From Rahal’s side, the move to LMP2 machinery is still in early stages of evaluation, but the plan is to align a prototype alongside the current GTLM class program into United Sportscar Championship 2015 season, especially in the endurance races. The reason behind the idea is to have conditions for overall wins next year, as well good chances into a possible entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Also under evaluation is to run the prototype program with some team that’s now in the run, which Bobby Rahal seems that will not affect Team RLL’s long relationship with BMW. Any further decisions will be confirmed in the end of 2014.
