Penske's triple title chance

I rarely talk about open wheel series here, as is a policy of mine to stay focus on sportscar racing, but the current moment in IndyCar standings deserves some words about.

In a fashion that can resemble Mercedes' dominance in Formula 1, Penske got stronger than never this season, with his 3 drivers in the top four position in the standings, with the only intruder being Schmidt Peterson's frenchman Simon Pagenaud. And if the ongoing situation wouldn't be reason enough to make Roger Penske display a large smile on his face, there's another fact here: his bet on the comeback of Juan Pablo Montoya to IndyCar is paying dividends as the colombian ace was polesitter and won the Pocono 500 last Sunday(6).

What we can see now is that the title battle between Australian Will Power(1st) and Brazilian Helio Castroneves(2nd) is on fire, with both having 446 points, being separated by one victory in favour of Power. And if Montoya(4th), who has 391 points, stays as as strong as it was at Pocono, you, dear reader, can expect a 3-way Penske battle royale for the title.

Of course, we cannot discard other contestants like Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, as well as Marco Andretti, Scott Dixon and Simon Pagenaud, as these guys can take advantadge of Penske's inconsistency to climb up the table, and with 7 races to go, any overturn on the championship battle would be no surprise.

But do you know what's the good point on this battle? If the three Penske drivers have any title chance, there will be no team orders or any interference on track. They will fight with everything they got, and there are no weak links in this trio. Helio is a naturally fast guy, Montoya is aggressive on the right measure and Power is a road-course ace. Which of them will be crowned champion? Only time will tell.
