No more metal on LMP2

We may see a drastic change in LMP2 category for the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship season, related to the drivers.

By regulation, in LMP2 category, the driver lineup must have at least one Silver or Bronze rated driver, as the category is a Pro-Am category.

Explaining quickly this metal matter: FIA keeps a driver rating list that is updated every year, based on certain criteria, separated in four ranks: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Platinum has the top professional drivers, so is the highest rank, going down to Bronze, where are the amateur and gentleman drivers.

The idea is to remove the driver categorisation rule from LMP2, making the category open to all, as example of LMP1 and LMGTE-Pro. One of the reasons is to attract more young drivers and to enlarge grid in the lower prototype class, hence a bit of the driver lineup selection is based to fit the nowadays rules.

But even with the removal of driver categorisation, cost-capping still remains, but it can be raised to $600.000 to fit the new coupé LMP2 costs.
